Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows:  Sanguine, a cross Argent (Silver), perched upon an elevated mound issuant from base of the second, a Western Meadowlark Gris, breast Or, chest Sable, superimposed upon a stylized sunflower to sinister Proper.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a triparted Silver scroll inscribed PERFECTUM DENTALIS SALUTEM in Maroon letters.

Symbolism
Maroon and white (silver) are the traditional colors of the Army Medical Department.  Silver further alludes to the tools used to provide excellent and professional dental health service.  The cross is a symbol of medical aid, health and mercy.  The Western Meadowlark and Sunflower are the State bird and flower of Kansas.  The motto translates to Complete Dental Health Care.
